A section of Muslims in Garissa County has urged fellow worshippers not to ignore Mawlid-al-Nabi - Prophet Mohamed’s birthday.
According to The Star, the Muslims said that the celebration is very important, and reminded those who have not been observing this special day to read the Koran once again.
Addressing Muslims at Garissa Primary School on Thursday after holding a procession to mark the day, Hassan Ngarawa, a cleric of the Ahlsunna Waljamaa community, said that individuals who are opposed to the celebration lack adequate knowledge on the Koran, adding that they need to revisit their religious background.
Muslims across the world normally celebrate the birth of Prophet Mohamed on Rabi’ al-Awwal, which is the 12th day of the third month of the Islamic calendar. The birthday changes over years because the lunar calendar normally advances by 11 days per year.
There are several countries including Saudi Arabia do not recognize the prophets day, Mawlid al-Nabi as it is referred to in different parts of the world.
The celebration of the birth of the prophet has led to divisions among Muslims not only in Garissa but also the entire nation.
Different Muslims have their thoughts in relation to the celebrations.
