The Muslim community will not back any coalition, party or candidate during the August poll, Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims has said.Supkem Secretary General Hassan ole Naado said the Muslim body will be independent but added that individual members will be free to elect leaders of their choice.He was speaking during the opening of the Masjid Al Noor Mosque in Meguarra, Transmara in West Pokot County.“We are not supporting any leader seeking a political seat,” Hassan said.“Supkem is part of the election observer board. It has to be fair and nonpartisan,” he added.He, however, told the Muslim community to elect leaders based on their development record.Hassan said leader with a clean track record have the ability to transform people’s lives.He told Kenyans to maintain peace during the electioneering period.“We must respect those with divergent views and not use force to coerce others into supporting politicians they do not prefer,” he said, as quoted by The Star.President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to dissolve Parliament anytime, a development that will mark the beginning of campaigns.The main coalitions during the August poll are Jubilee and the National Super Alliance (NASA).NASA leader Raila Odinga will be taking on Uhuru in his fourth quest to ascend to State House.
