[Photo: kahawatungu.com]Is there a possibility that Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Wafula Chebukati could resign before August 8 elections and throw the whole electoral process into disarray?
Well, Political scientist Mutahi Ngunyi has toyed with the idea following a series of 'mysterious' events that seem to draw a dark cloud of uncertainty as Kenya enters into an election whose stakes are very high.
"Nkaissery Assassination. BLIND SPOT. Attack on Ruto house. BLIND SPOT. Musando MURDER. BLIND SPOT. What is NEXT BLIND SPOT? Chebukati RESIGNS?" Ngunyi tweeted on Tuesday.
The analyst has been very vocal on recent days seeming to read ulterior motives on various occurrences tied directly or indirectly to the polls.
On Monday he had sought to know who stands to benefit from IEBC ICT boss Chris Msando's murder.
"On Chris Musando, we ask the CUI BONO question for the 100th TIME: Who BENEFITS? You IDENTIFY the beneficiary; You will Identify the Killer!" Ngunyi tweeted.
In his various hypothetical analysis pieces on his YouTube channel, The Fifth Estate, Ngunyi has often indicated that Nasa flag bearer Raila Odinga would stand to benefit from a postponement of August 8 polls.
Chebukati's resignation at this stage would most certainly mean that the presidential polls would be postponed.
IEBC Chairman acts as the Returning Officer for the presidential election and is also mandated by law to declare the winner. To replace Chebukati would be a lengthy process that would require the participation of Parliament that is currently almost dissolved.
