Ngunyi noted that he will vehemently back whatever action Wanjigi will take against Daily Nation for publishing his photo and details on an obituary page purporting his death and burial.

He advised Wanjigi to sue NMG for the failure of observing 'duty of care' and cautioned Wanjigi's foes against involving his family in political matters.

"On the Jimi Wanjigi obituary, the Daily Nation has no excuse. He should sue them for failing to exercise 'duty of Care'. And to Wanjigi's enemies, keep his woman, and children out of our wars as man". I defend him as my 'Rika" (age-mate)," he posted.

On Wednesday, an obituary of a man named James Richard appeared on the daily with details of Wanjigi and his family.

Following the publication of the fake obituary, Nation Media group sent an apology stating that it erred in publishing the notice.

“We refer to the publication of a death and funeral announcement of bearing the picture of Mr. Jimi Wanjigi that was erroneously published in the Daily Nation of February 7, 2018. We regret the pain and anguish this may have caused Mr. Wanjigi and his family and sincerely apologise for this,” stated NMG.
