Controversial political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has responded to the fine imposed on the Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS), Fred Matiang'i, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet and former Director of Immigration Gordon Kihalangwa.
Through his Twitter account, Ngunyi commended the High Court for only issuing a fine of KSh 200,000 to each of the three government officials.
He said that Justice George Odunga had resorted to “judicial elegance” through his lenient sentence.
He also seemed to suggest that contempt of court was supposed to have a heftier penalty such as a jail term.
"Justice Odunga has shown Judicial elegance. He could have sentenced Matiangi and co. to death or Jail. He did what was achievable. He diffused the tension between Harambee House (Office of the President) and the Courts. This means Miguna can be deported a fourth and fifth time," he tweeted.
Odunga fined the officials after they failed to produce Miguna in court.
