President Uhuru Kenyatta is being directed right into a political trap with the many corruption scandals unfolding under his watch, political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has warned.
According to the analyst, the government is set to lose because its anti-corruption strategy is naïve, a situation that has seen mega graft become the main talking point quite early in Uhuru’s second term.
Ngunyi also warned that this situation was being puffed up to create anger that could see the president impeached.
“Six months into Uhuru’s second term, corruption is the main legacy item; and it will not go away. Corruption has taken over from the Big Four as the main legacy project,” he argued.
“In our view, this is a carefully engineered project to create anger, and depict Uhuru as incompetent; and it is working,” went on Ngunyi. The analyst warned that the ongoing corruption wave could be cemented by a terror attack to trigger even more national anger against Uhuru, a crisis he said would attract him little sympathy given the prevalent post-handshake political dynamics.
The political analyst personally noted that while the president inherited a highly corrupt government, all the buck in regards to the ongoing looting stopped at his door. Ngunyi, however, stated the president executed all his intentions through the civil service and squarely shifted the blame to Joseph Kinyua, the head of Public Service.
“…if Uhuru’s government is currently naked, it is because the civil service has failed him. It is that simple,” Ngunyi averred.
“In my view, impeachment is a far-fetched conversation, but the president should not push the opponent to the point of desperation because of an incompetent civil service. He needs to change the civil service for corruption to become history in this country,” he concluded.
