A new case of swine flu, H1N1, has been detected in Laikipia county.
According to Laikipia county health officials, Donald Mogoi, cases of patients who have contacted the flue have been reported in the county's health facilities.
Patients are being received for treatment on a daily basis.
He says that swine flu has been mutating since 2009 and what is experienced now in Laikipia county is H1N1 type of swine flu.
This is a seasonal swine flu that circulates in the air."As of 2009, that virus has kept on mutating and what we have in Laikipia is a mutant called H1N1.
That actually is a seasonal flu that circulates in the air due to weather change." Mr. Donald said.
According to the health officer, a person who has contacted the flue has the following symptoms:
-coughs
-high fevers
-running nose
The county health officer has said they are managing to contain it because it is a normal flu and patients should not worry unless it complicates and cause pneumonia.
He advised residents to take relevant precautionary measures which basically includes watching high levels of hygiene like washing hands and using clean water.
Mr. Donald concluded by saying,"They do not need to be worried....cause one H1N1 that we are dealing with heals unless it complicates and cause pneumonia...two they should wash their hands, they maintain that self-hygiene then we will manage it."
