Speaking to reporters at Machakos town on Tuesday, Muthama said that the government must move with speed and restore order in Northern Kenya, the Coastal region and some parts of Rift Valley.

The senator said that the government has failed Kenyans and that it must work to redeem itself.

He added that the senseless killings witnessed in Mandera and Kapedo is a clear indication that the country’s security apparatus are not working.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta and his government must work out on insecurity and assure Kenyans of their safety,” he said.

The Wiper party member said that Kenya would easily be turned into a war zone if the government continue to ignore security concerns.

Muthama said that the dangers being posed by militia groups and criminal gangs are real and that security agencies must wake up to the realities.

He said that more measures apart from sacking former Interior CS Joseph Ole Lenku must be put in place to address insecurity. “The government must aim on permanent solutions and not only sacking individuals who fail to perform,” he added.

Muthama said that the opposition will not allow the government to lead the country in the wrong direction.

The senator said that the country’s economy is held largely the by private and foreign investors hence the need for the government to take security matters with seriousness it deserves.
