Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama has called on Kenyans to unite and talk in one voice in the fight against terror attacks in the country.
Saying the attacks have claimed many lives, Muthama added that no one is above the law citing President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive to have police bosses admit 10,000 police recruits whose admission was stopped by the court pending a case by Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA).
Last year, IPOA and Civil Society groups went to court to challenge police recruitment saying that it was not free and fair.
President Kenyatta on Thursday directed that the recruits be immediately admitted at Kiganjo Police Training College following the Garissa University attack which claimed more than 147 lives.
Senator Muthama argues that police recruitment exercise should follow due procedure according to the law.
“Wakati huu taifa likiwa linalia, tunatakiwa kuwa kitu kimoja kupambana na maharamia, hio haimaanishi kwamba Mheshimiwa Uhuru Kenyatta avunje sheria za mahakama, Kama mahakama imetoa amri, ni haki yake kutii kwa sababu kamwe hayuko juu ya sharia,” Muthama said.
Muthama was addressing mourners at the funeral of Cord Co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka's sister burial in Kwale County this weekend.
