Former Machakos senator Johnstone Muthama has defended Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka for skipping the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s controversial inauguration ceremony in January 30.
Muthama said no one has a right to launch attacks at Kalonzo.
He argued that the NASA co-principal's critics should seek answers before making any negative remarks and accusations about him.
The politician spoke during the Kamba Leaders Unity Forum at Koma in Matungulu, Machakos County on Monday.
Muthama said he was part of the committee tasked with steering the controversial swearing in.
He said Kalonzo is not to blame for the twists and turns at the event.
“I was the co-chair of the swearing-in planning committee, alongside Siaya senator James Orengo of ODM and Ford-Kenya’s Kimilili MP, Dr. Simiyu Eseli,” Muthama said.
“Why are people bashing my party leader alone instead of seeking answers as to why we all stayed away?” Muthama added.
On his part, Kalonzo maintained he is not a watermelon. The controversial event stirred a storm in the alliance, with a section of leaders and supporters terming Kalonzo, Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and senator Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) cowards.
The event led to the arrest of former Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Miguna Miguna who is currently in Canada following his re-deportation and Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang’.
