Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama has come out to defend Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Agnes Azani after Wiper Party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka asked her to apologize for the statement she made in regard to National Super Alliance (NASA).
The former vice president had said: "Ikiwa ni kweli Katibu Mkuu wa ODM alizungumza yale aliyozingumuza, basi hana budi ila kuwithdraw publicly (If indeed ODM secretary general said that she has no option but to withdraw publicly)," as quoted by Tuko.co.ke.
Muthama, who is a member of the NASA National Coordinating Committee (NCC) has, however, said that there are no reasons to reprimand Zani over the remarks.
According to the Senator, Zani has done nothing wrong defending Cord leader Raila Amolo Odinga ahead of the August polls.
"That was Zani's democratic right to say what she said, but it is not the position of the principal Raila Odinga or ODM or what Nyenze said was not the position of Kalonzo Musyoka as a principal and Wiper Democratic Party," Muthama said.
The issue of naming NASA flag bearer has continued to attract mixed reactions from both the opposition and ruling party.
Mombasa Senator Omar Hassan has, however, said that the delay is strategic.
