The revelation that journalists and two women lawyer activists were locked up at the home of Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama has attracted the wrath of Kenyans on social media.
Allegedly, the eleven journalists and the two lawyers Judy Thongori and Human Rights activist Ann Njogu were on Tuesday afternoon detained at the home for close to three hours.
The senator’s estranged wife Agnes Kavindu had invited the group to witness her inhumane living conditions as her husband is allegedly forcing her out of her home of almost two decades.
Kavindu claims she has been locked in the Senator's house for a month now without water or electricity in the house.
She added that Muthama had been threatening to divorce her if she ever got out of the home.
On Twitter, Kenyans condemned the act and even questioned the senator’s ability to ‘Okoa kenya’ if he cannot quite literally, save his home.
Here are a sample of those tweets:
THE HYBRID. @SirArthur254 said, "The Plight Of Agnes Muthama" not surprised the guy is a beast, he even looks like one.”
Another tweep peter mbina @petermutwiri1 said, “Thought He respect the family value until i watched The Plight of Agnes Muthama family define a man en we know wat kind of a man is muthama.”
jamesthirikwa @JamesThirikwa seemingly tried to encourage Muthama’s wife saying, “The Plight of Agnes Muthama Agnes smile, you don't own all the problems in KENYA. @MusyiFM @fidakenya.@Haturudinyuma.”
Akinyi Hongo wondered if the senator ciould be impeached @akinyihongo “The plight of Agnes Muthama - can Kenyans petition removal of a senator?”
And ChristAddict @RichardRikiriki said, “I fear for all Machakos fellas. If their senator can do this “The Plight of Agnes Muthama" to the mother of his kids. Shame on you Muthama.”
The senator has so far not commented on the issue which will keep Kenyans talking for a while.
