Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama has rubbished an agreement signed between Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana that would see the latter get a direct party ticket as he seeks to defend his seat during the August polls, the Standard newspaper has reported.

Speaking on Tuesday, Muthama said Kivutha must face Wiper's party primaries, arguing that direct nomination for the governor would disadvantage other candidates who are eyeing the gubernatorial seat on a Wiper ticket.

"The agreement between Kivutha and Kalonzo has fueled speculations Wiper will give direct nomination to the governor to defend his seat in the August 8 elections yet he is not even a member of our party," he said.

"Although our party leader entered the deal with Kibwana, we hold the position all members are equal and must be given the same treatment because favouritism is making many aspirants shy from seeking Wiper's ticket," he added.

The latest demands by Muthama could widen the rift with the Wiper Party leadership, even as a section of Ukambani legislators allied to Kalonzo demand for the removal of the Machakos Senator from the NASA committee charged with the responsibility of identifying a flag bearer.

The lawmakers claimed that Muthama is rooting for ODM Leader Raila Odinga who is contesting for the NASA ticket against Musyoka.

They want Muthama replaced with Kibwana.
