The Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko has directed the NCIC to investigate Senator Johnson Muthama over fresh hate speech remarks made in Busia.

Muthama is alleged to have made inciting remarks during the thanksgiving prayer for Busia Women Representative Florence Mutua on Monday.

The rally was attended by Cord top brass, including Raila Odinga.

"The police officers who arrested us should also arrest Ruto (William) and ask him what he means by 'frying someone'. We will fry him first before he fries us," Muthama said during the rally.

The senator was among eight legislators detained for four days over hate speech two weeks ago.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has recommended that the suspect be charged with the offence of Ethnic Contempt Contrary to Section 62(1) of the National Cohesion and Integration Act No. 12 of 2008,” read in part a statement by the DPP on Thursday.

"As the matter falls under the mandate of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission, the DPP has forwarded the inquiry file to the said Commission and directed that the suspect be immediately interrogated and speedy investigations conducted into the offensive utterances...”
