Former Machakos senator Johnstone Muthama was arraigned in court Friday, over alleged hate-speech remarks.Muthama was charged afresh over hate speech, and released on a Sh500,000 personal bond by a Milimani court.

The High Court reinstated hate speech and incitement to violence charges against the former lawmaker, with Justice Grace Ngenye Macharia making the orders after the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko appealed the decision of the lower court which had terminated the criminal charges against him. 

"Muthama shall appear before the chief magistrate court on October 6, 2017, for purpose of taking hearing dates,” ruled, the judge.Muthama is accused of making hate speech remarks at a press conference on June 13, 2016, at Capitol Hill in Nairobi county, at a press conference at Capitol Hill.

The prosecution alleged that he uttered words that would create chaos and forcibly storm the Inspector General's Office if “certain people” were not arrested.
