Immediate Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama, has pledged his support for Governor Dr Alfred Mutua.
This is despite his earlier warning that he could not work with him, due to their political differences.
Muthama who is a strong supporter of the National Super Alliance (Nasa), declined to contest in order to retain his seat in the August 8 polls, on grounds that he could not be able to work with Mutua, whose MCC party supports Nasa's rival, Jubilee Party.
He, indicated that he was ready to Dr Mutua, who is serving his second term on condition that he ensures equity between the poor and the well-off across the Ukambani region county.
Speaking during a burial ceremony in Matungulu, Muthama warned that if Mutua fails to do so, he would fight his leadership, including in court.
“I will allow Mutua to serve his final term comfortably, only if he adheres to this simple requirement," he warned, as first reported by an online daily.
According to him, there have been cases of tax exploitation, targeting traders in the county, adding that Mutua should ensure such cases are stopped.
“I want to send this message to Mutua that all I demand from his government is to ensure 'mama mbogas' (vegetable vendors) are charged only Sh200 per year while Boda Boda operators pay Sh500 per year in taxes,” said the former WDM-K lawmaker.
