Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Mutrhama has called for unity within the opposition coalition, National Super Alliance (NASA) amid a possible stalemate.
This follows a recent public spat between Orange Democratic Party (ODM) Deputy boss Hassan Joho and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka during ODM’s National Governance Council (NGC) meeting in Nairobi. The exchange saw the Mombasa Governor bash the Musyoka, Amani Party boss Musalia Mudavadi and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula trio for skipping ODM boss Raila Odinga’s January 30 mock presidential inauguration.According to Muthama, however, Joho’s accusation of cowardice and betrayal on the three, specifically Musyoka, is not to be taken seriously terming it as a mere personal opinion.‘’Joho was just expressing himself as a person. His remarks do not represent the formal position of the Orange Party,’’ he told Citizen TV on phone Sunday.Muthama also defended Musyoka for skipping the Uhuru Park event, maintaining that his position as the NASA second in command automatically makes him the People’s Deputy President and should not, therefore, be harassed into taking the oath of office.‘’As long as Raila Odinga is the People’s President, Kalonzo automatically becomes the Deputy People’s President according to the NASA leadership structure,’’ he noted.NASA leaders have since assured supporters that the alliance remains united despite its shaky outlook.
