Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama was questioned on why he prefers Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) leader Raila Amolo Odinga to former vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka’s presidential candidature during Wiper Party held its National Executive Council meeting on Tuesday, February 21.
According to Tuko.co.ke, tempers flared during the meeting as different members of the political outfit continued to express their dissatisfaction over various issues within the party as the next general election draws closer.
The local daily reports that members of the party banged tables and shouted during the meeting over the party boss’ preference for certain aspirants in the region.
The meeting comes a few days after Kalonzo signed an agreement to work with Makueni Governor Kivuta Kibwana.
According to the agreement, Kibwana will be accorded a direct ticket to defend his seat in the next general polls. Kalonzo has, however, said that there is nothing like direct nomination within the party.
Addressing his supporters after the meeting, Kalonzo affirmed that his party was committed to conducting free and fair nomination when that time comes.
During the burial of the late Kwale Senator Boy Juma Boy Muthama said that the deceased had told him Raila was the best bet for the opposition.
