According to Muthama, he has shared a cordial relationship with President Uhuru despite their differences when it comes to political ideologies.

Speaking to The Star, Muthama said that the two have interacted on different platforms and they have been “good friends” for many years.

“I have not had anything personal against Uhuru Kenyatta. However, there are normal differences when it comes to issues. While I am in the opposition, he is the president of Kenya and my job is to keep the government in check. I supported Uhuru in 2002, and I worked with him in the 10th parliament," said Muthama.

The senator also said that he does not hate the Kikuyu community, as many people have been claiming and he speaks fluent Kikuyu. He added that he has not only employed the Kikuyus but also does business with them.

“No, I do not hate them at all. Among my best friends and business associates are many members of the Kikuyu community. I speak fluent Kikuyu; many workers in my company are drawn from all communities of Kenya including the Kikuyu,” said Muthama.

In the past, Muthama has been questioning his relationship with the president and his tribe.
