An aspirant for the position of Senator in Machakos has disagreed with Senator Johnston Muthama over a decision by governor Alfred Mutua to offer free land to investors.

Carlos Kioko faulted Muthama's decision to challenge Mr Mutua's offer in court saying it hampers development.

Muthama in November 2013 moved to court to block President Uhuru Kenyatta from presiding over the launch of the investment strategy plan for the new Machakos city.

Governor Mutua, a week later, swore an affidavit explaining why Muthama was unhappy with his decision.

Muthama and Mutua have been at loggerheads since 2013 when they were elected Senator and Governor respectively.

Muthama accuses the county chief of going against Wiper Party ideals by working with the Jubilee administration.

"Muthama should calm down and support development initiatives," Kioko, who spoke in Tala town, Matungulu constituency said.

"Let's learn to differentiate politics from development."

The Machakos county government plans to set a side free land for foreign investors.

The initiative aims at developing Machakos town which, according to governor Mutua will later be elevated to a city status.
