Former Machakos senator Johnson Muthama has expressed confidence that Babu Owino will recapture his Embakasi East parliamentary seat.
Muthama said the controversial politician will win the by - election should an appeal fail to go through after his election was nullified on Friday.
Speaking in Kangundo town on Friday, the former Wiper senator alleged that Babu’s election nullification was the doing of the Jubilee government.
Muthama claimed that top government officials were punishing Owino for being vocal against impunity and agitating for respect of the rule of law.
“It is shameful that some people somewhere can sit down and decide to punish a young man whose political star has just started to rise,” Muthama said.
The politician said the High Court gave baseless reasons for nullifying Owino's victory.
“The reasons for the nullification are laughable and there is no doubt that the Jubilee government's top leadership has a hand in these,” Muthama added.
Muthama said NASA will put up a spirited campaign to ensure Babu recaptures his seat.
He asked Embakasi East electorates to stand firm and reject top government officials who want to impose leaders to them.
Muthama claimed that Jubilee wants to impose certain leaders on the Embakasi people as a strategy for 2022 elections.
He said they will not be intimidated by the government whose legitimacy is questionable.
The High Court nullified Owino's victory on grounds that the election process was marred with widespread error.
Judge John Sergon ordered for fresh election in the constituency.
Owino has vowed to appeal the ruling.
The former University of Nairobi (UoN) student leader said he was ready for a by-election anytime stating that he has the numbers to even beat President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto should they decide to contest for the same seat.
