Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama has finally broken his silence over the intrigues that led to the naming of the National Super Alliance (NASA) flag bearer.
This comes a week after Muthama fallout with his former close ally and Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka over recent party primaries.
Speaking at Kakuyuni in Machakos County on Saturday, the Senator denied allegations that he opposed the naming of Kalonzo as the Opposition coalition torch bearer.
He said the former Vice President was not picked NASA flag bearer because a majority of members in the NASA Technical Committee that came up with the lineup preferred ODM leader Raila Odinga to lead the Opposition outfit.
“My opponents have been spreading falsehoods that I opposed my party leader to be named flag bearer. I want to tell you today in broad daylight that I together with Hon. Maalim and Hon. Nyenze backed Kalonzo but most of our colleagues in the committee proposed Hon. Raila,” he stated.
In the NASA Technical Committee, representatives from ODM included: Senator James Orengo, Senator Agnes Zani, and Hon Timothy Bosire.
Ford Kenya had fronted Senator Bonny Khalwale, Hon Chris Wamalwa and Hon Eseli Simiyu.
Kalonzo’s Wiper Party was represented by Hon Farah Maalim, Hon Francis Nyenze as well as Senator Johnstone Muthama.
Sakwa Bunyasi and Hon Kiruto Arap Kirwa represented Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC.
Muthama, who was the committee's co-chair alongside Siaya Senator James Orengo, has been fighting accusations of betraying the Kamba community by undermining Kalonzo efforts to be NASA’s presidential candidate.
Last year the Wiper boss told off Muthama accusing him of trying to push the people of Ukambani into supporting Raila over him as the presidential aspirant.
“I carry the final word because I hold the vision of the party and if Muthama continues to undermine my effort to become the presidential candidate, the people of Ukambani will rip off his trouser, like was the case in Parliament," Kalonzo said during a meet-the-people tour at Sultan Hamud.
ODM leader Raila Odinga was named NASA presidential candidate with Kalonzo as his running mate during the August polls.
