Machakos Woman Representative hopeful Agnes Kavindu has pledged to push for stiffer laws that will tame Sexual Gender Based Violence mostly perpetuated on women and young girls.

In an interview with the People Daily, Kavindu said that sexual violence against women is rife in the county.

She said that weaker laws have mad the fight against SBV fruitless.

She observed that he vice will be eliminated if stiffer penalties against perpetrators are enforced and implemented.

 “It is painful to hear and see perpetrators of SBVs walk scot free on the streets because of weaker laws,” she said as quoted by the People Daily.

The Woman Rep hopeful asked women to rally behind her election promising to defend their rights and interests.

Kavindu said that she will work day and night to ensure more women are included in government activities.

She said that despite the constitution provide clear guideline on equal appointments to public office, women are still being sidelined.

Senator Johns Muthama’s ex-wife pledged to ensure full implementation of the two-thirds gender rule at the Machakos county government and other public institutions within the county if elected.

Kavindu asked incumbent Dr Susan Musyoka to prepare to hand over power on August 8.

She criticized Musyoka’s leadership claiming that she has been sleeping as women, youth and other marginalized groups suffer.

Kavindu is eyeing to unseat Dr Musyoka on a Jubilee party ticket.

Other candidates in the race are Francisca Mutinda vying on Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) party and Joyce Kamene vying on Wiper party ticket.
