Machakos Woman Rep hopeful Agnes Kavindu Muthama has vowed to eradicate drug and substance abuse among young people if elected in the August 8 polls.

Kavindu, who is Senator Johnson Muthama’s ex-wife, says that drug abuse is the biggest challenge facing youth in Machakos.

In an interview with the Star, Kavindu said that she will create rehab centers for drug addicts.

Kavindu also promised to set up a fund for drug addicts to help them venture into business once they recover from rehabilitation.

She said that drug addicts have been neglected and condemned by the society.

“I will establish one rehab center in every ward to rehabilitate young people who have been consumed by drugs and substance abuse,” she said.

She also pledged to use the National Government Social Affirmative Action Fund to promote the interests of women and Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWD).

She also promised to empower women through table banking. Kavindu criticized the incumbent women rep accusing her of failing to fight for the interests of marginalized groups.

The Jubilee Party Woman Rep hopeful has vowed to send incumbent Dr Susan Musyoka packing.

Kavindu’s bid received a major boost last week after one of the aspirants Lucy Nduta contusing as independent shelved her bid in her favour.

Others in the Machakos Woman Rep race are Francisca Mutinda contesting on Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) party and Joyce Kamene vying on Wiper ticket.

The incumbent is contesting as an independent candidate after losing the wiper ticket in the party primaries.
