Under leadership of Chairman Paul M’ithinkia and the council’s Secretary General Phares Ruteere, the angry elders accused Mr Muthaura of bringing to light a matter they termed as “secret council issues."

"We heard him saying that the supreme council will conduct elections and we are surprised," Mr M’ithinkia said.

"The council of elders informed him that his role as patron had been revoked after he politicised the council of elders’ matters and caused division," he added.

M’ithinkia said Muthaura should not have talked on matters related to the council as the meeting was about Ameru professionals.

The chairman further said that being a Njuri Ncheke was something earned on secrecy, and that anyone who brought to light the council's secrets broke the very covenant that bound them together as a body.

"We do not have a school where you are taught about how to be a Njuri Ncheke elder it’s a big secret and our affairs should be left to us," he further said.

M’ithinkia told Muthaura to stay away from making decisions on behalf of the council and reminded him that his role as a leader within the elderly had been stripped long ago.
