A section of residents from Muthwani Ward in Machakos have opposed the proposed scraping off of Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Speaking at Magatani Village on Thursday, the group’s spokesman Stephen Komo, said the fund should be maintained but renamed 'equaliser fund'’.
He argued that the fund has seriously contributed to improved infrastructure across the country.
The residents said they had seen the name fit for the fund as a replacement of CDF since it has led to equalisation of communities across the country through constituencies in terms of development.
Resident Joshua Mwau said the name was relevant in case some MPs had problems with the name CDF because their arguments were based on the fact that the constitutions demands that the allocations be taken to the counties' kitties.
Mwau said the residents had seen lots of developmental projects implemented through the fund in their ward through office of the area MP, Patrick Makau.
He disclosed that some of the projects executed by the fund include construction of schools, hospitals, bore holes and issuance of school fees bursaries to needy and vulnerable children, projects he said were all credible since they directly impacted on lives of the common wananchi.
The residents lauded the MP for involving the public in CDF projects across the constituency stating that that had promoted its implementation given that residents decide on the projects they want implemented by the fund in their regions.
Komo said that had led to acceptance of all the projects because the public give priorities to projects that have got more impacts to them depending on the need in the communities.
He said that the fund should be left in custody of members of parliament stating that its caretakers who misuse or misappropriate it should be dealt with accordingly in accordance to the law.
They said the few leaders who do not ensure that the money serves purpose it is intended to should not make millions of Kenyans whose lives get changed due to projects implemented by it suffer.
They urged other leaders including members of county assembly from Machakos County to bench mark in Mavoko Constituency so as to see and learn from projects implemented by Makau through CDF.
