The outgoing Nyanza Regional Coordinator (RC) Francis Mutie has apologised to residents of Rift Valley over remarks regarding clashes at the Nandi- Kisumu border.
Mutie recently made remarks that did not go well with leaders from Rift valley with Nandi Senator Stephen Sang demanding an apology.
He alleged that politicians are inciting and feeding the attackers. He threatened that if the Rift Valley officer does not want to take action his officers will cross over the border.
Mutie said the officers are provoking Nyanza residents. He also accused chiefs from Rift Valley of colluding and allowing mobilisation of more than 500 attackers.
Sang said such utterances were uncalled for reiterating that the fight that led to the killing of three people and displacement of over 2,000 others was as a result of cattle rustling.
During the Kibigori clashes on the Nandi-Kisumu border, Mutie accused security officers in Rift Valley saying they are not cooperating in recovering and returning stolen animals from Nyanza.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony to the new RC Wilson Njega on Friday, Mutie said as a Christian he is deeply sorrow and asked for forgiveness.
Mutie said worked in Rift valley for 11 years, six in Nandi and five in Uasin Gishu counties respectively who helped him to gain experience in his career.
“I am human and at times you might offend another in various ways unknowingly. Rift Valley people treated and supported me well during my tenure as an administrator,” Mutie said.
He also thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for giving opportunity to serve Kenyans despite challenges the government faces in service provision.
“My lowest time was when goons threw shoes at the Presidential dais in Migori County. That was the time I knew I was going home. But the President, being with a big heart gave me another opportunity to serve Kenyans,” he said.
Mutie who has served in Nyanza since July 2009 was moved to Harambee house in Nairobi. Njega is the former Nyandarua County Commissioner.
