Governor Alfred Mutua has appealed to Kenyans to maintain peace as the country inches closer to the August general elections.
Mutua said without peace it will be hard to realise development.
He spoke at Our Lady of Consolata Catholic Cathedral, Archdiocese of Nyeri Sunday where he attended a mass service.
"As we edge closer to the general elections, I appeal for peace and unity from all Kenyans," he told the congregation.
"I also urge the church not to relent in its promotion of peace, cohesion and integration. My fellow leaders, let us preach peace and tolerance to our people."
He said peace remains the recipe for sustainable development in the country.
"As Kenyans, it's paramount that we make a commitment to co-exist harmoniously among ourselves," Mutua added.
"We should strive to jealously protect each other at all times in order to continue building a peaceful and progressive Kenya."
