Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has urged People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) to apply for development funds.
Speaking to reporters at county headquarters in Machakos, Mutua said that disabled persons have the same right and opportunity to access resources being provided by the government.
He said that people with disability have an opportunity to better their lives through the development funds being provided by both the county and the national government.
“People living with disabilities should come out and seek development funds so they can improve their living standards,” he said.
Mutua said that his government has put in place adequate measures meant to ensure the rights of the disabled persons in the county are not infringed.
He observed that the constitution champions for the rights of PLWD adding that they will be given equal opportunities just like other citizens.
The governor stated that his government is all inclusive and that people with disabilities have been given various leadership roles.
“My government will not discriminate against any disabled person and we have given them opportunity in various leadership roles,” he said.
At the same time, Mutua asked the county assembly members to formulate laws and policies that recognized PLWD. He said that such policies will empower them and promote their socio-economic lives.
Meanwhile, Mutua said that his government is committed to service delivery. He stated that he will continue to initiate projects meant to improve the living standards of Machakos people.
Mutua added that he will not be distracted in his quest to better the lives of Machakos people who he said had been denied services for a long time.
