Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua had his political home invaded on Manday 5. The NASA brigade took over Machakos and the incumbent governor and his supporters had a rough day. Mutua had several visitors among them the Sultan Hassan Joho. Maendeleo Chap Chap was under siege as Wiper ruled Machakos.
Every speaker at the rally mocked the governor’s loyalty base, Jubilee. Raila Odinga continued his public lectures about the incompetence of Jubilee led by President Kenyatta and DD Ruto. Corruption and partiality in rolling out national development projects were among the things Odinga talked about in the perceived opposition stronghold. The reception the NASA boss got must have send MCC leader a message that he is in the wrong camp at an inappropriate time and wrong region.
Odinga’s running mate Kalonzo Musyoka used the opportunity to cement authority for Wavinay Ndeti; the person tasked with a responsibility of ensuring that Musyoka’s former loyal son falls. He urged his community to support NASA as opposed to Mutua’s move of supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election. The Ukambani veteran politician has attracted top regional leaders including former CS Charity Ngilu. Mutua has an uphill task to retain his seat.
The other co-principals in attendance drummed up support for Raila Odinga and NASA affiliated leaders. The rally was an event that will definitely change Machakos County politics.
