October 26 repeat presidential election was a total fraud, US law scholar Prof Makau Mutua has said.

According to Mutua the August 8 election- which was nullified by the Supreme Court- was more credible than the fresh poll.

In an article published by a local daily, the controversial scholar claimed the IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati was held captive by Jubilee administration and ordered to conduct the 'sham' election.

"Chebukati has exceeded all historic expectations for cowardice and incompetence. He is clearly a puppet with many puppeteers. He doesn't know whether he is coming or going," he wrote as published by Sunday Standard.

Mutua also took issue with the electoral commission boss for announcing varying figures on voter turnout.

Chebukati had initially placed the turnout at 48 percent but later changed the figure to 34 percent.

When he announced the final results, he said 38 percent of registered voters had participated in the exercise.

"The numbers that he announced- on turnout and votes- stretch credulity. He announces one thing and then comes back and says another. Kenyans have concluded that his numbers are fake," Mutua added.
