Governor Alfred Mutua has urged Kamba elected leaders to unite in readiness for the 2022 general election.
Speaking to journalists at the Kenyatta stadium in Machakos on Wednesday, Mutua said that time has come for the region leaders to work together and ensure they produce one of their own for the top seat.He said that Ukambani has for along time been used by other communities to ascend to power.He said that they have what it takes to produce a president adding that unity of leaders irrespective of their parties is critical for the regions dream to come true.Mutua said that disunity, political blackmail, suspicion and betrayal has denied the region chance to produce top leaders.The Maendoe Chap Chap (MCC) governor said that he is willing and ready to spearhead unity among Kamba leaders."It is time we united as a region and worked on strategies that will see us produce a president in the 2022 general election," he said.Mutua who has declared interest in the presidential seat come 2022 said that the Kamba region has men and women who have the capability of leading the country.He asked Kamba leaders and locals to unite and back his bid in 2022.Governor Mutua said the region will no longer agree to be used as flower girls by top politicians who are out to achieve their own agenda.The 2022 politics is already playing out days after president Uhuru kenyatta sssumed office for his second and final term.Mutua is expected battle out with other aspirants who have declared interest in the top seat among them Deputy President William Ruto, NASA deputy leader Kalonzo Musyoka among others.Kalonzo is expected to fly the NASA ticket after its leader Raila Odjnga failed to win the recently condlcuded presidential election.
According to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Raila and Wiper, Kalonzo will automatically fly the NASA ticket in 2022.
On Monday , Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana who is also Wiper acting chairperson launched Kalonzo's 2022 bid promising that they will push to ensure he is on the ballot.
There have been claims that Kalonzo could be shortchanged by NASA to have Raila contest again in 2022.
