Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader Dr Alfred Mutua on Sunday drummed up support for President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto ahead of the August polls.The legislator said that the two leaders deserve another term in office to complete the projects they had started four years ago.
“He needs a second term to fast track development projects at regional and national levels,” said Mutua, as quoted by Capital FM.
Mutua, Machakos Governor, also said that he is humbled following his endorsement by a section of leaders to contest for the nation’s top seat in 2022.
The governor, who spoke at the African Inland Church (AIC) Kea, Migwani, Mwingi West constituency, said that he needs time to consult different persons before making the announcement as the race to State house becomes tougher.
“I am honoured by the endorsement and want to say that I am driven by the desire to serve the people and not acquire power,” he said, as quoted by Capital FM.
The lawmaker also called upon the church to pray for him as he seeks to rise to power when that time comes. “I also ask you to pray for my detractors too so that they can see the light,” he added.
The campaign of the governor come at a time when Senator Muthama and Former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka are at loggerheads.
