Governor Alfred Mutua has been told to stop misusing provincial administration officials from the region.
Speaking at Nzoiani Primary School in Mavoko Constituency where he commissioned two classrooms on Saturday, area MP Patrick Makau said Mutua was fond of exploiting the state officials after giving them little handouts.
Makau said the governor used area deputy county commissioners and their assistants who harassed chiefs to help in mobilizing the locals to attend the recent controversial Ukambani delegation visit to Statehouse.
He said the governor did the same on Friday to mobilize youth from all over the county to attend his youth convention meeting at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos town.
Makau cautioned the administrators against harassing the locals while marshaling residents to attend political meetings organized by Governor Mutua to sale ideologies of his Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement.
He said as state officials, the administrators should not accept to enjoy proceeds of corruption because money used by the governor to bribe them and the residents are from the county government’s caucus.
“It is the Machakos County Government’s resources he is misusing to ferry and bribe people to attend his political functions including opening and running Maendeleo Chap Chap offices in and out of Machakos County,” said Makau.
Makau criticized the governor’s youth convention meeting terming it premature politics.
He said Mutua called the meeting to cheat and brainwash the youth as usual instead of constructively engaging them in developmental projects that would improve their worth in the society thereby equally improving their living standards through credible sources of livelihoods.
“Machakos youths need jobs and not rhetoric and empty talks to win their confidence, they do not need to be cheaply bribed to attend political rallies for the governor to gain political mileage. Giving youths hand outs will not help,” said Makau.
Makau said the governor should instead create the county’s infrastructures and design projects to the youths which will ensure they secure credible jobs.
He said it was rhetoric for the governor to hold the youths’ meeting claiming he wanted to discuss their plight after failing to provide them with jobs for the period he has been in office.
“Mutua has been talking of jobs creation to the youths since he was elected, where are the jobs? Where are the international investors? Stop your theatrics,” said Makau.
The governor hired several vehicles including school buses to ferry not only the youth but also men and women to the youths’ convention on Friday.
“We must in 2017 elections elect a governor who will mind about affairs of the Machakos residents,” said Makau.
Makau disputed claims that he will be rallying as a gubernatorial running mate in the forthcoming polls terming them propaganda.
He said he is defending his Mavoko parliamentary seat.
