Machakos governor Alfred Mutua has urged religious leaders to spearhead peace and unity among Kenyans ahead of the 2017 general elections.
Speaking on Sunday at the Emmanuel Cathedral, ACK Diocese of Kajiado, Mutua said religious leaders play a critical role in ensuring that the country stays united even as the country gets into the electioneering period.
"The church plays an important role in not only nourishing the soul but also advancing national cohesion as well as upholding of social values," Mutua said.
"In addition to the preacher’s call for people to return to the Lord and live a life that pleases God, I appeal for peaceful co-existence and to look after each other in order to foster unity," he added.
The governor further implored fellow leaders to preach peace and tolerance as they lead political campaigns across the country.
