Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua Wednesday condoled with family members and relatives of the late Paramount chief Mzee Stephen Savano Maveke.
Maveke was the only paramount chief in the colonial era in the entire Ukambani region.
He passed on last week at 96 years. Speaking while condoling with the family at their Sengani home in Matungulu, Mutua described him as his personal friend who was committed to good leadership and discipline.
Maveke was the national chairman of Athanga clan and previously served in Kenya Africa rifles in the colonial era.
He was also involved in the fight for independence.
