Machakos governor Alfred Mutua has commiserated with the family of the late Eliud Ngala Mwendwa who died on Wednesday last week.

In a post published on Mutua's official Facebook page, he described the late Mwendwa as a "great man who was loved by many". 

He also urged residents to join hands in praying for the family. 

 "Let us join the family in thoughts and Let us join the family in thoughts and prayers during this difficult time of grieve and ask God to give them strength to bear the great loss. Prayers during this difficult time of grieve and ask God to give them strength to bear the great loss," he posted. 

The late Mwendwa was the first member to represent Kitui in the Legislative Council (LegCo) in 1963. 

He also served in the late President Jomo Kenyatta's government as Cabinet Minister for Labour. 

He died aged 93 in Nairobi Hospital while undergoing treatment for old-age- related illness.
