The battle for the Kitui governorship has taken a different twist after Dr Alfred Mutua's Maendeleo Chap Chap party fielded a candidate against the incumbent Governor Dr Julius Malombe in the forthcoming general polls.

Stephen Mutua Kilonzo, party's secretary general, has joined Senator David Musila in the race to smoke out Malombe in one of the most watched political contests at the county level.

Kilonzo has already met with the leaders of the political outfit at a hotel in Kitui to plan how they will send home Malombe when that time comes.

The aspirant has called upon leaders to be accountable in their respective posts, adding that he will give Malombe and Musila a run for their money.

"Maendeleo Chap Chap party supports faster and efficient service delivery, I urge political leaders to be accountable to the electorate," he said, as quoted by the Standard.

Kilonzo, who was accompanied by Kitui West politician Scholar Kamene asked residents not to vote based on political outfits but the performance scoreboard of their leaders in the August polls.

"Let us not be fooled into voting people based on their party affiliation without evaluating their worth,” he added.
