While addressing the media on Citizen TV through video conferencing, the governor cited frustrations from the party leader Kalonzo Musyaoka as the main reason the catalyzed his defection.

Mutua further added that his push for development in the Ukambani region together with his goal-oriented record caused discomfort in the party with some leaders who were growing  envious of him fighting to ensure that he is kicked out of the party.

"I left Wiper because I felt frustrated. I do not trust Wiper. That is why I joined Maendeleo Chap Chap. There were efforts to kick me out of Wiper because of my development track record," he said.

The governor further added that his new party, Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) will continue advocating for development, not just in Machakos or Ukambani alone but in the larger nation.

He also noted that the party will field candidates in various elective posts across the country even though he did not touch on whether the party will be headed to the newly formed Jubilee Alliance Party.
