Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has appealed against the Supreme Court's ruling that nullified his August 8, 2017's re-election.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap Party leader took to social media to share a photo of the appeal notice captioned: “Notice of appeal filed successfully. The voice of the people of Machakos who lined up to vote for me and progress will prevail very soon. The journey to Statehouse in 2022 is still in full gear,” reads Mutua's post.
Mutua said he is not shaken by the ruling, stating that he won the election in a free and fair manner.
"I want to tell my people they did nothing wrong in the election, these are hurdles one goes through before being lifted to the next office," Mutua said.
On her part, former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti challenged Mutua to face her on the ballot in a Machakos gubernatorial by-election as directed by the appellant court.
Ndeti said she will turn to God to emerge victorious at the Supreme Court.
"I will take my appeal to my father in Heaven in prayer and will still win the seat," Ndeti said.
Mutua faulted the Court of Appeal for what he termed as misunderstanding of the findings in his case.
