Machakos county Governor Alfred Mutua has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to doctors in the county who are currently on strike to resume duty or face disciplinary actions.
"I give doctors 48 hours to resume duty. After 48 hours, those who do not resume duty will be viewed to have absconded and Human Resource measures will be undertaken," Mutua said.
In a press briefing on Thursday, Mutua maintained that there was no decline in access to healthcare as only a section of doctors were on strike.
"The County Government hospitals are operating well: surgery is ongoing, hospital beds and treatment and all areas of our hospitals including ICU are operating normally, all hours of day and night. We have hired doctors from the private sector and even received volunteer doctors to fill the gap left by some of the doctors of the County on the illegal strike," Mutua said.
