Machakos county boss Dr. Alfred Mutua has halted the harvesting of trees on the Iveti hills.
According to the second time governor, the decision was reached after the failure of the loggers to consult his government over the same.
The governor also said that his government is committed to ensuring that trees are not cut without a proper plan.
“I have officially halted the cutting down/ harvesting of trees on the Iveti Hills, Machakos by loggers until I am briefed of the situation and a decision on the way forward taken. My Government was never consulted and we must find a solution to this situation’ he wrote on his official Facebook page.
The governor has assured that residents that he will protect their rights during his second term as the governor.
He has expressed commitment to addressing different areas of the economy including agriculture.
In the meantime, the governor is set to know his fate next week after former Kathaini MP Wavinya Ndeti filed a petition challenging his win.
The Wiper candidate argues that the governor’s win does not reflect the win of the people.
