Machakos County Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has officially handed over the Machakos County stadium to the Ministry of Sports for upgrading before Kenya hosts the Africa Nations Cup Chan 2018.
The Machakos Stadium will have new tartan tracks that will be laid within a period of three months with an artificial turf been laid in the pitch.
The stadiums is among 10 stadia in Kenya that will host the Africa Nations Cup, a football tournament that features teams that participate in local leagues within Africa.
Mutua said that the current seats within the stadium will also be refurbished with the VIP section been extended in order to accommodate a big number of spectators during major championships.
"These renovation works are meant for the development of Sports within this County and countrywide. I am very pleased to welcome the Ministry of Sports officials to this stadium to officially begin refurbishing the stadium," said Mutua.
Mutua further said that Machakos County will continue been a hub of sports as the Machakos County football league will resume next weekend to pave way for the refurbishment process to be completed.
