Governor Alfred Mutua on Friday held a meeting with the county security team at the back of rising insecurity.
The County Security Committee was led by County Commissioner Matilda Sakwa.
The meeting deliberated on various security concerns including the recent attack at Mitaboni trading centre.
Mutua said security remains a key agenda for his government adding that the county has put in place measures to ensure security is beefed up.
"We will not tolerate any acts of lawlessness that threaten the lives and property of our people," he said in a statement after the meeting held at his office.
"I wish to appeal to Machakos residents to be on high alert and notify law enforcers about any suspicious persons in their midst. We must be in the forefront in the fight against thuggery and insecurity."
On Wednesday night, armed thugs hacked to death four night guards and seriously injured two others at Mitaboni trading centre.
The attack caught residents unaware as they appealed to the county government to guarantee security.
"The fight against insecurity should not be politicised by a few leaders and individuals whose motive is suspect," added the county chief.
"The youth should also shun politicians who exploit them to engage in acts of lawlessness in the guise of fighting insecurity."
He condoled the families of those whose lives were lost during the attack and wished those in hospital quick recovery.
Other members of the security committee present included Jacinta Wesonga (County Police Commander), Isaack Alima (County AP Commander) and Jonah Kirui (Head of CID).
Mutua recently hosted Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet.
The two discussed ways of curbing insecurity as the country prepares for the 2017 elections.
