Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua believes he is being used by God to end poverty in the dry Ukambani region.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap proprietor is also confident of clinching his seat in 2017 polls to complete a host of projects initiated by his government.
Speaking at Kisasi, Kitui Rural constituency on Wednesday, the outspoken governor said he was ready to liberate the poverty stricken region.
"God does not want people to live in poverty and I want to be used by Him to end the suffering of our people", Mutua said as quoted by The Standard.
Mutua blamed poor leadership as the reason behind underdevelopment of the region since independence.
"These leaders still want to be elected yet they only aspire to fill their stomachs while the rest of the people are sleeping hungry. They must be rejected by the people," he added.
He took a jibe at Wiper Leader and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, accusing him of doing little to uplift living standards of people despite being in government for decades.
"He has nothing to show as an MP, cabinet minister and even as a Vice President. Let him point out what he has done for our people to command respect," he said.
