Machakos government Finance officials want Governor Alfred Mutua’s move to suspend them reversed. The officials have accused Mutua of using the press to taint their reputation and profession by linking them to corruption.

According to The Star, the officials have filed the county assembly in a bid to have their suspension overturned as soon as possible. The officers, who are 434 in number, said that Mutua’s trampled on their rights after suspending them in a move to ensure "radical surgery" to rid the government of corrupt officers.

They claimed that they were not informed of the reason why they were being suspended and that the action was undertaken selectively. They also lamented that the county boss did not suspend other officers in various departments even after sending home accountants and procurement officers on compulsory leave.

The medical practitioners have asked the county assembly to ensure that they resume work and their August salaries paid. On his part, Assembly speaker Florence Mwangangi asked relevant secretarial committees to look into the matter and respond accordingly.

The suspension of the workers came amidst a warning from the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) against frustrating workers at the county level.
