Machakos governor, Alfred Mutua was on Monday summoned over the alterations of cash book entries as well as cash advances to county staff that amounted to Sh46 million.
Mutua appeared before the Senate Public Accounts Committee which was chaired by West Pokot Senator, John Lonyangapuo.
Lonyangapuo questioned the governor on the payment of advances to staff back in the 2013-2014 financial year which is yet to be paid back.
Mutua was also asked to explain why the county cash book is not updated regularly.
”These are some of the teething problems the Finance department was experiencing. But it is now fully operational,” said Governor Mutua.
He explained that the county lacks trained personnel and that is why there are quite a bit of inconsistencies in the Auditior General report of 2013-2014.
