Ababu who was on official visit to the county lost his MP seat during the August 8, 2017, general election in Budalang'i before he was appointed to his current position by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Mutua said after the two met that the former MP should be free to visit Machakos anytime to discuss issue of national importance.

He, however, stirred debate on social media when he said Ababu should also feel fine being in a Mandeleo Chap Chap zone.

"It is always a pleasure to spend time with my friend Ababu Namwamba who I find to be intelligent and with a clear focus and purpose," Mutua said in a tweet after the meeting.

"Welcome again my brother to Maendeleo Chap Chap zone."

Ababu in the run-up to the August polls is among politicians in the country, just like Mutua, who formed their own political parties which they rode on while defending their elective seats. Ababu, then, had left ODM and re-invented The Labour Party of Kenya which was led by Julia Odhiambo.

He will be remembered as one of the most outspoken opposition leaders who closely worked with Raila between 2007 and 2017.
