The two had been longtime friends before the 2013 polls given that both served in same government as Vice President and government's spokesperson respectively.

Kalonzo issued Mutua a direct nomination on his Wiper ticket, the then most popular party in Ukambani region thereby making him become the first Machakos governor.

It is alleged the former Vice President boosted Mutua's 2013 campaigns with a huge chunk of cash.

To the surprise of Wiper supporters, Mutua turned out to be the 'beast' Kalonzo never knew after winning the elections.

The Machakos governor parted ways with Kalonzo and launched Maendeleo Chap Chap Party, which he is its leader.

Mutua after clinching the gubernatorial seat started trying to outsmart Kalonzo by championing for quick development in the entire Ukambani region arguing the Wiper leader had done nothing to the Kamba community despite being in active politics for over 30 years.

He established a political outfit dubbed 'Maendeleo Chap Chap' which later turned out to be a political party which he used to successfully defend his seat for a second term in office.

Either way, the conflict between the two which seems to be talked all over has not changed the political stand in the Kamba region, something which was never expected.

Many people thought the rift between Kalonzo and Mutua would affect the community's political wave in 2017 general elections.

Governor Mutua supported the Uhu-Ruto's re-election as he sort for his re-election on Maendeleo Chap Chap party while Kalonzo rallied as the NASA's Deputy President in the same polls.

Surprisingly, Jubilee failed to get credible votes even though Mutua won the hotly contested gubernatorial race.

Just like the majority of the residents, we were expecting the Ukabani votes to split since the two were vigorously campaigning for their different political divides.

Both Kalonzo and Mutua have announced their presidential bids in 2022 polls, this has confused members of the Kamba community on who to drum support and vote for when the time comes.

We, however, wait to see what happens.

Will the two put aside their differences and decide to work together or they will both go for the big seat?
