The battle for supremacy between Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua and Former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo is expected to take center stage in the fight for County Assembly Speaker.

Former Machakos County Assembly Speaker Bernard Mung’ata and his deputy Nathaniel Ng’ang’a is expected to contest for the seat, which is one of the most influential posts in the region’s politics.

Mutua’s Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka have been at loggerheads since the governor opted to form his political outfit.

Mung’ata is banking on the support of Mutua to win the seat after playing an immense role in his campaigns. The lawmaker has exuded confidence that he will win the seat when it comes.

“I am confident that honorable members of this second assembly will give me another opportunity based on the mature, fair and professional manner in which I handled House business in the previous assembly,” said Mung’ata.

Mutua, who retained his seat in the last general elections, is looking forward to taking over Ukambani as the next political kingpin. The two leaders command a lot of support from different sides of the nation including Ukambani.
